ANKENY, IOWA — Woodward-Granger Eva Fleshner had two miles to run Saturday. That she did so faster than any of the other seventh or eighth grade girls competing meant she is now a state champion.
Fleshner reached the finish line in Ankeny in only 12 minutes and 26 seconds, securing first place in Class 2A.
Fellow Hawk eighth grader Zoey Osmundson was 27th overall in 14:36. Chloe Creger, also a grade eight student, was 33rd with a clocking of 14:59.
Eighth grader Cael Leighton was the only boy running for the Hawks. He finished 12th overall with a time of 12:22.
The W-G varsity will compete Thursday in their 2A State Qualifying Meet at Southeast Valley. The meet will begin at 4 p.m.
