WOODWARD — Friday’s WCAC girls battle between Pleasantvile and host Woodward-Granger was a close-fought affair — until the final six minutes of action.

The host Hawks suddenly seized control of the contest at that point, outscoring the Trojans (7-4, 2-4) 9-1 down the stretch as part of a 12-1 final frame to post a 33-23 win.

The victory lifted W-G to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play and came after the host faced a 17-12 deficit at the half.

Both teams struggled at the foul line, with W-G sinking 8-of-18 while Pleasantville connected on just 5-of-14 from the stripe.

Emma Anderson led the hosts with 10 points, with Katelyn Scharlau adding eight points and Kayley Dresback five. Four points from Natalie Helbling and two apiece from Ava Petersen, Mae Anderson and Lisa Pitman capped the home team scoring.

Statistical information from Pleasantville was not available.

W-G resumes post-holiday play by hosting North Tama in a girls-only junior varsity/varsity set Jan. 3, with the Hawks boys and girls varsity visiting AC/GC Jan. 4.
