The Perry Freedom Center will host a free breakfast Saturday, Aug. 18 from 8-10 a.m. as an opportunity for the community to learn about Freedom for Youth Ministries.

This Saturday with Freedom event will be held at the Freedom Center at 1210 Second St. in downtown Perry, with middle and high school students learning soft-job skills through preparing and serving the meal.

“This event gives the community an opportunity to encourage and empower the students,” said Perry Freedom Center Site Director Diana Yepez. “Saturday with Freedom shows what God is doing in and through the youth at Freedom.”

The students leading the event will greet attendees at the door and, with the guidance of volunteers, prepare and serve a meal of pancakes, fruit, little smokies and coffee. Free-will donations will be accepted, with students earning a portion of the proceeds.

Freedom for Youth Ministries, founded in Des Moines in 2003, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit on a mission to reach Iowa’s youth with the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Perry Freedom Center opened in 2013.

Programs include tutoring, after-school activities, meals and supportive employment training — all centered on the message of Jesus Christ’s saving grace. Freedom currently operates in Perry as well as Mitchellville, Knoxville, Huxley, Johnston, Stuart, Winterset, Carlisle and four church-based locations in the Des Moines metro.
