Workers with Bellino Fireworks of Omaha, Neb., folded up their freedom tent Monday as the company drew a line under its retail fireworks sales in Perry.

Chinese labor and American patriotic pride suffered a small fall Wednesday afternoon about 4:30 p.m. when a load of fireworks spilled in the 22000 block of Iowa Highway 141 east of Perry.

Patriotism’s peddlers pulled up stakes this week after the passing of Perry’s brief fireworks season.

The Bellinos folded their freedom tents and returned to Omaha, Neb., and the Phantoms melted away to their home bases, having satisfied our new-found freedom in fireworks if only for a day.

One last-minute bargain hunter saw some Chinese labor and American national pride put to waste when a large batch of family-friendly explosives was dumped on Iowa Highway 141 about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers of the Perry Police Department did not appear to issue a large number of citations for violations of the city’s fireworks ordinance in the days leading up to and following Independence Day, but a full report has not been made available.

One patriotic privateer, who did not wish to share his name with ThePerryNews.com, said this year’s take made the freedom tents well worth the while. He did not wish to share with ThePerryNews.com the size of his profits either, and that is a freedom for all seasons.

Bellino Fireworks of Omaha, Neb., wrapped up its retail fireworks sales in Perry Monday at the corner of First Avenue and Iowa Highway 141.
Freedom will return to Perry in the form of fireworks next summer for the Fourth of July.
