PHS grad Mariah McNamara of Perry is raising funds for a mission trip to Thailand during the month of July.

Mariah McNamara of Perry can be seen around town, selling cupcakes for a cause: a mission trip to Thailand during the month of July.

“While in Bangkok, our primary missions will be children’s ministry and hard labor,” said McNamara, a 2017 graduate of Perry High School. “My team and I will be working in the slums of Bangkok, rebuilding communities and making relationships with whomever we encounter,” including “many women stuck in the huge human trafficking epidemic in Thailand.”

McNamara is a sophomore at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo and plans to transfer to the University of Northern Iowa next year to major in leisure youth and human services. Her mission trip is organized by WorldRace, and she will stay in Youth With a Mission Thailand housing while in Bangkok.

“We will use these opportunities to tell lost, broken people about Jesus and the hope and love He brings,” she said. “We will also be partnering with a local school to provide an afterschool program for kids.”

McNamara will be raising funds for her WorldRace mission journey through the end of June. Her goal is $6,400, which means she still has a good number of cookies and caramel bars to go. Donations can be made online or to McNamara in person. Just look for the cupcakes.
