Greene County, DC-G lone playoff winners from area districts

Home teams finished 20-8 in the quarterfinals of the prep football playoffs Friday.

DC-G scored a safety when Harlan snapped a punt out of their own end zone late in their 3A playoff game Friday, lifting the Mustangs to a 9-7 win.

They were joined by Greene County, a 35-21 victor over Des Moines Christian, as the only teams from area districts advancing to the quarterfinal round.

DC-G (9-1) will travel to Lewis Central (9-1), a 44-0 winner over Oskaloosa, for a 3A showdown while Greene County (9-1) travels to Algona (10-0) to face a Bulldog team coming off a 35-14 win over Clear Lake/George-Little Rock in the first round of 2A action.

Norwalk defeated D9 team Glenwood, 42-28, in the other 3A battle from an area district (ADM, who did not qualify, plays in D9). Greene County’s 2A District 9 rival OABCIG was a 26-7 winner over West Marshall, with the Falcons (10-0) to host PCM (8-2), a 34-8 victor against Benton Community.

Top-ranked Dike-New Hartford (10-0) stopped Panorama (8-2) on the last play of their game Friday for a 21-14 win, setting up a quarterfinal, in Dike, again, against West Lyon (9-1), who blasted Osage, 55-14. Second-ranked Van Meter (who bested Panorama for the 1A D8 crown) was a 38-12 winner over D7 champion Pella Christian (W-G plays in D7).

Van Meter (10-0) will host D2 champion South Central Calhoun (10-0), who rolled to a 56-22 win over D7’s Mount Ayr. Non-qualifier Ogden plays in D2.
