Perry's Syd Guerra blasts the ball out of the Jayette zone as goalie Selena Garcia watches during a game earlier this season. The pair were two of seven Jayettes to recently earn All-RRC recognition.

EARLHAM — Senior Syd Guerra stressed the nylon with just over two minutes left in regulation to send Perry to a 3-2 win over host Winterset in Raccoon River conference girls soccer Monday.

Guerra’s goal came on the second assist of the match from Jaqueline Guardado and helped raise Perry to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in RRC action. The loss dropped Winterset to 6-4, 3-1.

Winterset scored in the 12th minute to grab a quick 1-0 lead, but Natalie Martinez’s 20th goal of the season tied the contest in the 25th minute. Guardado set up a Martinez score less than a minute later as the Jayettes entered the intermission with a 2-1 advantage.

The Huskies knotted the score with 16 minutes to play, but Guerra tipped the tables in the waning minutes to help the Jayettes snatch the victory.

Selena Garcia was in goal for the first 26 minutes before being replaced by Odaly Perla. Garcia returned between the pipes for the entirety of the second half and finished with 10 saves, with Perla stopping one shot.

The Jayette junior varsity’s offensive woes continued Monday, with Perry unable to fire a shot on goal in suffering a 2-0 loss. Katelyn Jaimes had eight saves for the visitors.

Perry will host Greene County tonight and then entertain North Polk Thursday for Senior Night. The regular season will end May 22 with a trip to Atlantic.
