GRANGER — Members of the law enforcement community were honored Tuesday at Hawk Diamond before and during Woodward-Granger’s season opening baseball game with Ogden.
Various agencies had vehicles parked on the outfield grass around the infield, with officers and deputies saluted for their efforts in public safety.
Very little was safe for the guests once the game began, as W-G starter Spencer Hanson and reliever Cole Theisen combined to one-hit Ogden as the Hawks tallied a 10-1 victory.
W-G blew the WCC game open early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and another four in the seconds. Ogden scored an unearned run in the fourth, but the hosts countered with a single tally in their next at-bat before adding a final pair of runs in the sixth.
Hanson went five frames, walking five but striking out six to collect the win. Theisen tossed the final two innings, yielding one hit while fanning three.
Reese Jamison was 3-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate for W-G, with Theisen 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Marcus McConahay was 2-for-4 and scored twice, with Matt Buch 2-for-3 from the number nine spot in the lineup.
Matt Rhodes aided the winning cause with a double and three runs scored while Brady Aunspach scored twice and ripped a double.
W-G hosts Webster City tonight, play at AC/GC Thursday and entertains Southwest Valley Friday to complete their opening week.
