Coy said he would struggle to provide the time necessary to serve fully as co-head coach and so left the main duties to Hardy, who was quick to state there would be little noticeable change.

“We are a coaching staff that delegates authority and develops our players by committee,” Hardy said.

Perry was 4-5 overall last season and 3-4 in Class 3A District 2. They remain in a newly configured D2 for the next two seasons, with Boone, Carroll, DC-G, Humboldt and Webster City their district foes. The Jays will play four non-district games each of the next two years.

Perry will open their season Aug. 24 at Dewey Field, which is scheduled to have the first of four phases of a renovation project completed by then. Greene County will be the opponent, with the teams vying for the coveted Cowbell Trophy for the 87th time. The Bluejays currently possess the Cowbell after a 17-14 overtime win at Dewey Field last season.
