Hawk boys first, girls third at Monday coed

LEON — The Woodward-Granger boys dominated their side of the Central Decatur Coed Invitational Monday, with a strong effort from the Hawk girls earning third place.

The Hawk boys piled up 164 points to easily best runner-up Central Decatur (101), with Clarke (96.5) third in the eight-team meet. Mt. Ayr (128) claimed the girls crown, with Wayne (106) second and W-G (73) third.

Chandler Cavanaugh won the 200 in 24.03 seconds, with Cale Pritchett fourth in 24.86. Pritchett won the 400 in 55.22, with Tae Calderon second in 56.73 while Kade Polich placed fourth in the 100 in 12.43.

Trevor Faltonson was second in both the 1600 (5 minutes, 12.76 seconds) and 3200 (11:37.58), with Caleb Jones third (5:12.79) in the former while Dylan Steele was third (11:42.06) in the later. Jones also finished fourth in the 800, crossing in 2:19.07.

Keith Braunschweig was second (16.61) in the 100 hurdles, with Nick Moser and Worth Henry 2-5, in 1:03.2 and 1:07.66, in the 400 hurdles. The trio was joined by Tate Lettow for fourth in the shuttle hurdle in 1:07.52.

Dillon Fogarty’s push of 41 feet, 8-1/4 inches won the shot put, with Brody Easter fifth at 36’11. Brendan Bird and Easter were 2-5, in 134’11 and 115’11, in the discus, while Braunschweig cleared 5’8 for fourth in the high jump and Bryce Achenbach and Reese Jamison teamed for 4-5 in the long jump at 19’0-1/2 and 18’10-3/4.

Achenbach, Cavanaugh, Josh Saak and Ian Thompson won the 4×400 in 3:36.08 and were second in the distance medley in 3:54.35, with Thompson, Saak, Cavanaugh and Jay Dorenkamp winning the sprint medley in 1:40.73.

The 4×100 unit of Achenbach, Braunschweig, Jamison and Polich placed second, in 46.53, with Lettow, Jamison, Dorenkamp and Logan Roll third in the 4×200 in 1:41.32.

The W-G girls won three relays, beginning with their specialty, the 4×800, in which Emma Drake, Kaitlyn Peters, Anna Tague and Ava Peterson finished in 10:25.21.

Also victorious were Drake, Tague, Peterson and Kayley Dresback in the 4×400 (4:24.64) and Tague, Peterson, Drake and Josie Noland in the distance medley (4:41.05).

Katelyn Bandstra, Alissa Smeltzer, Sophie David and Gena Tague were third in the 4×200 (1:58.11) and fourth in the 4×100 (57.16) while Dresback, Noland, Gena Tague and Mae Anderson finished fourth in the sprint medley (2:06.11).

Noland was second in the 200 (28.9), Peters third in the 1500 (5:38.81) and Chloe David fifth (1:21.39) in the 400 hurdles for the Hawks. Elly Polich and Natalie Helbling were 5-6 in the 400 in 1:12.58 and 1:13.53, with Posey Robinson (13:23.81) third and Briley Bermel (14:07.58) fifth in the 3000.

Janae Jones provided the only field event points for W-G after finishing fifth in the discus with a toss of 90’9.
