WOODWARD — Strong play in the middle quarters lifted Woodward-Granger to a 62-37 win over visiting AC/GC in WCAC boys cage action Friday.

W-G (7-4, 5-4) used a 15-7 second quarter to enter the half with a 27-16 lead, then outscored AC/GC (3-8, 2-7) 18-5 in the third period to open a 45-21 gulf en route to the win.

The Hawks were 7-of-14 at the free throw line and 24-of-51 from the floor, including a 7-of-17 clip beyond the 3-point arc. The Chargers hit six of their nine free throws, but landed only 5-of-25 3-point attempts.

Sam Peterson led W-G with 15 points, with Bryce Achenbach adding nine points and J.P. Nixon and Kaya Bowlsby eight points apiece. Seven points from Brendan Bird, five from Pacey Moats, four from Noah Hoyt and three each from Reese Jamison and Nick Buch completed the scoring list.

Achenbach had nine assists and four steals, with Peterson grabbing five boards and making three steals. Nixon cleared eight caroms, with Bowlsby making off with three thefts.

The Hawks were without leading scorer Keith Braunschweig, as the sophomore sat out his second consecutive game while in the concussion protocol.

Caden Wardyn had 15 points and Bryce Littler nine to lead the visitors.

W-G hosts West Central Valley Tuesday and Des Moines Christian Friday.
