OGDEN — Woodward-Granger and Ogden decided they would need an additional four minutes to settle matters Friday after the two WCAC boys basketball teams found themselves tied, 59-all, at the end of regulation.

While the final 15 seconds of regular time were tense and full of drama, there was little suspense in the overtime, as W-G (5-1, 5-0) dominated the period, 14-2, to claim a 73-61 win. The loss dropped Ogden to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

The host Bulldogs were out quickly, seizing an 18-9 lead after one quarter of action. The Hawks managed to close to within 31-28 at the break, with both teams scoring 10 points in the third period.

Each team saw a lead disappear in the final few seconds of regulation, setting up a four-minute OT.

Ogden’s Ben Heeren, a 6-6 senior, nearly saved his team with a 31-point, five rebound, four steal and three assist masterpiece.

Griffin Diggs added 12 points and Kayden Kruse 11, with Jacob Craven providing five points and Kaleb Badker two.

Junior guard Bryce Achenbach hit 7-of-11 from the field, including two 3-pointers, to lead the Hawks with 25 points.

Noah Hoyt contributed 18 points and Nick Buch eight, with Reese Jamison and Keith Braunschweig scoring six points apiece while both Kaya Bowlsby and Alex Bice had five each.

Achenback and Hoyt pulled down nine rebounds apiece, with Achenbach distributing six assists while Hoyt made off with four thefts.

W-G finished with a decided edge at the free throw line, where the guests sank 22-of-28 attempts while the home team was 6-of-9.

W-G hosts Greene County for a non-conference twin bill Monday before visiting Madrid Tuesday. A Friday visit from Pleasantville will cap the pre-holiday portion of the schedule.
