Hawk boys rally past host Spartans

MAXWELL — Visiting Woodward-Granger rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to claim a 53-49 win over Collins-Maxwell in non-conference play Tuesday.

The host Spartans (2-7) turned a 15-12 first quarter lead into a 28-18 advantage at the break.

W-G (2-5) came out of the locker room determined to erase the gap on the scoreboard and did just that, outscoring C-M, 25-14, in the third quarter to grab a 43-42 lead. The Hawks held on from there, slowly opening a two-possession lead en route to the win.

The hosts launched 29 3-pointers, making 10, while W-G was 3-of-7 behind the arc. W-G finished with an 8-of-14 effort at the foul line while C-M was but 1-of-4.

Walker Deputy led W-G with 14 points, with Worth Henry scoring 13. Carter Moran and Brody Nardini each scored eight points, with Trevor Simmons adding six points and Dylan Backe and Coby Peters two apiece.

Moran had seven rebounds and Backer four assists. Nardini had five rebounds, three assists and five steals, with Simmons pulling down five caroms while tallying four assists, three steals and four blocked shots. Deputy sank two 3-point shots and Nardini one.

Mason Markley sank 5 treys to lead the Spartans with 23 points. Jace Huntrods had 11 points, with Luke Huntrods adding six, Caleb Dvorak four, Weston Kahler three and Blake Huntrods two. Markley had 15 rebounds for the home team, with Kahler having five assists and six steals.
