WOODWARD — Last season ended one game away from the state tourney and with 15 wins. Already 7-2 at the holiday break, the Woodward-Granger boys cagers must feel as if they are perfectly on pace to top the school-best win total from last year.

The Hawks are 6-1 in a tough WCAC race, but have shown plenty of resiliency by coming out on the winning side of three games decided by six or fewer points.

The team is shooting a solid 49 percent (224-of-457) from the floor, including a 38-of-127 (29.9 percent) on 3-pointers. That leaves W-G a most respectable 186-of-320 (58 percent) inside the arc, a key factor in their quick start.

Three Hawks average double-digit scoring per game, led by Bryce Achenbach, who has 139 points, a 15.4 ppg average.

Keith Braunschweig has added 121 points (13.4 ppg) and Noah Hoyt 114 points (12.7 ppg).

Braunschweig has pulled down 60 rebounds and Achenbach 50, with Hoyt grabbing 38 caroms. Achenbach has distributed 49 assists and made 16 steals, with Hoyt responsible for 17 thefts.

W-G visits AC/GC Jan. 4 when their season starts afresh. A visit from Panorama is scheduled for Jan. 8, with W-G traveling to Van Meter Jan. 11.
