Keith Braunschweig scores for W-G over the Panorama defense during their 2019 meeting.

WOODWARD — Panorama outscored host Woodward-Granger by nine points in the fourth quarter of their WCAC tussle Tuesday. The edge might have proved decisive, but W-G had opened the game by putting 17 more points on the board in the first eight minutes of play, and the eight-point differential accounted for the difference in a 57-49 Hawk victory.

The hosts could do no wrong in the first few minutes of play, racing to a quick 10-0 lead. The margin stood at 17-3 midway through period one, and was 24-7 entering the second stanza, where a 15-14 Hawk edge created a 39-21 halftime lead.

Panorama (5-6, 4-5) cut their gap by only one point, to 49-32, as the fourth quarter began but slowly chipped away, drawing as close as 53-45 but finding it impossible to erase their early deficit.

W-G (9-2, 8-1) was a 75-72 winner in Panora in the first game of the year and entered the game knowing their guests would not be an easy out. The Hawks were helped by strong shooting and by having balanced scoring, as three players reached double-digits.

Noah Hoyt led the way with 17 points, with Keith Braunschweig adding 16 points and Bryce Achenbach 11. Reese Jamison had six points and Kaya Bowlsby four, with Sam Peterson adding two points and Pacey Moats one. Achenbach had five assists and Jamison three, with Bowlsby blocking two shots.

Gracen Welberg’s 15 points and the 13 scored by Kolby Shackelford paced the Panthers. Dominic Walker had eight points, and Preston Walker four, with Alias Stahl scoring three points while Malachi Peasley, Zach Rizzuti and Jared Wasson scored two points apiece.

W-G will visit Van Meter Friday while Panorama travels to Des Moines Christian as conference play continues for both schools.
