Hawk girls eliminated by host Spartans

GRUNDY CENTER — Eighth-ranked Grundy Center was a 64-25 winner over visiting Woodward-Granger in girls Class 2A Region 2 action Tuesday.

The loss sees W-G bow out at 5-16 overall, with seniors Ava Petersen and Faith Kuehl having their prep careers come to an end.

Grundy Center (17-3) will face Earlham (13-8) in a Friday regional semifinal. The Spartans were in control of Tuesday’s game from the beginning, opening leads of 20-3 and of 37-8 after each of the first two frames.

Grace Deputy scored nine points for the Hawks, with Darby Nixon adding six. Four points from Petersen, three from Makenzie Dresback and three from Libby Grell capped the scoring.

Deputy snagged five rebounds and Nixon three, with Petersen handing out three assists.

Bailey Reding (18), Paiton Wallis (17), and Lainy Thoren (14) led Grundy Center.
