STUART — The Woodward-Granger offense produced 21 more points Tuesday than the team produced Monday. Unfortunately for the Hawks, both games ended with the team on the wrong side of the final score, with W-G falling to West Central Valley, 55-51, after a 47-30 loss at Martensdale-St. Marys.

Both games were on the road, with the latter a WCAC contest that sent the Hawks to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

WCV was off to a quick start Tuesday, racing to a 22-10 lead after the first frame. The Wildcats held a 32-22 halftime lead and remained in front, 44-34, entering the final eight minutes.

W-G made a run, outscoring the hosts, 17-11, down the stretch, but the Hawks simply could not make up the difference in suffering a four-point loss, 55-51.

The Hawks shot well at the foul line, sinking 12-of-16, but hit just 19-of-65 from the floor, including just 1-of-12 3-pointers.

Alyssa Bice scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds for W-G, with Kayley Dresback adding 11 points, three assists and three steals. Natalie Helbling had eight points, Mae Anderson and Kaitlyn Peters four apiece, with Lisa Pitman scoring three points and Katelyn Scharlau two.

Scharlau had nine rebounds while blocking four shots, with Anderson and Peters grabbing seven boards apiece while Helbling made four steals.

Kennedy Lose and Grace Dupuy both scored 12 points for WCV, with Joelle Grubbs pulling down 12 boards.

M-SM also used a fast start to down W-G, opening a 16-6 lead after one quarter and a 26-10 advantage after two. W-G made only 9-of-46 shots in the loss.

Dresback had 10 points, Anderson seven and Peters five, with Bice scoring four points and Scharlau and Pitman two each. Bice and Scharlau collected five caroms apiece, with Dresback making six steals and Bice five.

Jensen Archibald fueled M-SM with 13 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

W-G will play at Des Moines Christian tonight, with Saydel to visit for a girls/boys non-conference set Monday.
