WOODWARD — Make that 15.

The Woodward-Granger girls stepped out of conference Friday to host Grand View Christian and had little trouble in quelling the Thunder, 48-21, to improve to 15-3 overall. The Hawks were 12-11 last season.

The win marked the sixth time W-G has held an opponent to less than 30 points. The team is yielding just 34.2 points per outing.

The hosts led, 11-7, after one frame and were in front by a slim 20-15 margin at the intermission.

The second half was as starkly different as could possibly be, beginning with a 17-6 W-G edge in the third quarter that created a 37-21 gap on the scoreboard. GVC was held without a single point over the final 10 minutes of play, with 11 fourth-quarter points from the home team setting the final score.

Finley Fitzgerald led all scorers with 13 points for W-G. Emma Anderson had nine points, with Katelyn Scharlau, Darby Nixon and Quinn Kaufman scoring six points apiece. Mae Anderson and Mackenzie Dresback both scored three points and Natalie Helbling two to cap the scoring.

Kaufman and Fitzgerald had two 3-pointers apiece, with Nixon, Dresback and Emma Anderson each hitting once beyond the arc.

Kelly DeMeulanaere and Sydney Lane had six points apiece for GVC, with Haley Lane tallying five points and Maddy Childs and Kylie Hoben two each.

W-G visits Madrid Tuesday and will host Des Moines Christian Friday.
