Hawk grapplers compete in Charger Invitational

GUTHRIE CENTER, Iowa — Seven Woodward-Granger wrestlers placed Saturday at the Charger Invitational, a 20-team event hosted by AC/GC.

Greene County scored 186 points to win the meet, with SE Valley second at 153.5 and AHSTW third at 143.5. W-G, which left the 113, 152, 195 and 285-pound divisions open, tallied 97 team points to place eighth.

Dustin Harney (24-5) placed third at 160 pounds with a 2-1 mark that included wins by major decision and decision, with Alex Saxton (33-8) 2-1 and third at 106 with victories by pin and decision.

Three Hawks — James Dorrian (24-19 at 126), Kolby Fogarty (27-13 at 170) and Alex Evans (28-11 at 220) all placed fourth.

Dorrian was 2-2 with a pin and a decision, with both Fogarty and Evans 1-2 with each winning with a pin.

Oliver Potter (16-17) was 3-1 with a trio of pinfall victories to place fifth at 145 pounds, with Jackson Potter (15-13) 2-2 with two pins in placing seventh at 182.

Also in action for W-G were Holdon Heard (17-21 at 120 pounds), Jayden Flugge-Smith (24-19 at 132) and Tjaden Smeltzer (17-2 at 138). Flugge-Smith was 1-2 with a victory by decision while Heard and Smeltzer were both stopped twice in their matches.

W-G will compete Saturday in the Class 2A Sectional 2 meet at Winterset, with ADM, North Polk, Perry and Saydel joining the hosts in competing. Wrestlers who win their weight class or finish as runner-up will advance to the Feb. 12 District 1 meet in Ballard. There they would face grapplers who advanced from among Ballard, Gilbert, Humboldt, Nevada, Roland-Story and SE Valley.
