Hawk gridders have season slate revealed

Woodward-Granger will take to the gridiron for the first time this season when they host Madrid August 28.

WOODWARD — If fortune smiles upon Iowa and the nation the 2020 prep football season for Woodward-Granger will kick off with a home game against Madrid August 28.

The Hawks will be in Class 1A District 8 for one year, as the IHSAA has limited the new assignments to 2020 only. Others in the district include AC/GC, Kuemper Catholic, Van Meter, West Central Valley, and Woodward-Granger.

W-G opens play August 28 by hosting Madrid before visiting Ogden Sept. 4. They will be the home team against intra-city foe Woodward Academy Sept. 11 before taking the bus to Pella Christian Sept. 18 to conclude non-district play.

D8 action begins Sept. 25 with a visit to AC/GC, followed by an Oct. 2 home contest with Panorama. The regular season wraps with a home game against Kuemper Catholic, a trip to West Central Valley (Oct. 16) and a visit from rival Van Meter (Oct. 23).

W-G finished 6-3 overall last season, narrowly missing the playoffs. The Hawks are coached by George Ashman.
