TRURO — The Woodward-Granger baseball team collected a pair of very different WCAC victories over host Interstate-35 Thursday.

The Hawks (5-0, 4-0) were the home team in the opener and held on to record a 3-2 victory before exploding for nine runs in the top of the seventh inning in the nightcap to pull away for a 14-3 win over the Roadrunners (2-2, 2-2).

W-G scored twice in the second inning and once in the third to open a 3-0 lead in game one, but a pair of I-35 tallies in the top of the fourth brought the game to within a run.

Brandon Worley earned the win with six innings on the hill. He allowed seven hits while striking out seven, with both I-35 runs unearned. Alex Bice came on to record the final three outs and earn the save. He issued one walk and struck out two in the process.

Singles from Reese Jamison, Bryce Achenbach and Worth Henry were the only hits for W-G, who capitalized on seven walks. Achenbach had two stolen bases, with Jamison, Hunter Pifer, Joe Rhodes and Trevor Simmons also making off with thefts.

Henry and Pifer scored, with Aiden Honkomp scoring as a courtesy runner for Worley, who had walked. Jamison had two RBIs for the Hawks.

W-G trailed, 2-1, in the second contest before scoring three times in the fifth and once in the sixth to open a 5-2 edge. The hosts cut their deficit to 5-3 with a run in the sixth, but the guests took the top off the game with a nine-spot in the seventh en route to cruising to the win.

Five Hawks threw pitches in the win. Caden Easter was the winner, tossing 4-2/3 frames, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out eight. Eighth-grader Collin Nardini recorded three outs with one hit and one strikeout.

Bice and Henry both threw 2/3 of an inning, the former allowing a run on a walk with a strikeout while Henry fanned two. Jamison issued one walk in a short stint on the rubber.

Henry had an excellent offensive outing as well, driving in four runs with two hits and a walk. He scored three times and stole two bases.

Jamison had three hits and three RBIs, Worley two hits and two RBIs, Rhodes a single and two runs, with Jack Grell adding a hit while Pifer scored twice.

W-G visits Clarke today before hosting Ogden Monday and traveling to Madrid Tuesday.
