Hawk matmen top Bluejays, fall to host Bombers

HUXLEY — Woodward-Granger was a 51-27 winner over Bondurant-Farrar Thursday while suffering a 54-24 setback to host Ballard in triangular wrestling action.

Cody Fisher (195 pounds) and Cole Carman (145) were the only two W-G matmen to finish 2-0, with Carman recording two wins by pin while Fisher had one pin and one forfeit.

Seven Hawks finished with 1-1 records and with their victory coming by pinfall: Hunter Pierce (106), Dilynn Lewiston (113), Ryan Munoz (120), Payton Tague (126), Jay Dorenkamp (138), Cale Pritchett (160) and Tyler Lawrenson (220).

Austin Scharlau was 1-1 at 152 pounds with a victory by decision while Travis Schieltz was 1-1 at 170 after receiving a forfeit.

Colt Palmer (132), Kade Polich (182) and Griffen Gibbons (285) were in action in both duals but were unable to tally a victory.

W-G will compete Saturday at the WCAC tournament in Guthrie Center before joining Des Moines Roosevelt and Interstate-35 for a quadrangular at Des Moines Lincoln Tuesday. The Hawks will then wrap their pre-holiday schedule by hosting AC/GC, Van Meter and East Union Thursday.
