Hawk matmen win two at own triangular

WOODWARD, Iowa — The 2022 portion of the wrestling season started on a strong note for Woodward-Granger Thursday, as the host Hawks picked up wins of 46-44 over Bedford/Lenox and of 63-10 over Central Decatur. Bedford/Lenox was a 57-9 winner in the other dual.

The match with Central Decatur saw W-G receive eight forfeits, with both schools not competing at 220 pounds.

Of the five contested matches, the hosts won three. Brayden Simons recorded a pin in 39 seconds at 152 pounds and Jackson Potter won by fall in 5 minutes, 44 seconds at 170, with Kolby Fogarty winning, 10-6, at 182.

Simons, Potter, Fogarty, Dustin Harney (160 pounds) and Alex Saxton (106) won with pins against Bedford/Lenox, with James Dorrian a 12-3 winner by major decision at 126. Winning against B/L by forfeit were Abraham Bell (113) and Alex Evans (285).

Receiving forfeits from Central Decatur were Saxton, Bell, Holden Heard (120), Dorrian, Peyton Nixon (132), Oliver Potter (145), Harney and Bryce Hockenson (195).
