Hawk netters stripe Tigers in WCAC play

WOODWARD, IOWA — Scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-22 carried Woodward-Granger to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Madrid in WCAC volleyball Tuesday.

The win kept W-G in range of first place in league play with a 6-1 mark. Des Moines Christian in 8-0 and Van Meter 7-1. W-G is now 6-17 overall, with Madrid falling to 7-14 and 2-5.

Jada Tague had eight kills to fuel the offense, with Ashley Gerken adding six kills and Lindsay Mescher five. Brayten Ashman tallied four kills, Grace Deputy three and Samantha Volz and Audrey Simmons two apiece.

Volz provided a total of 14 assists, with Simmons tallying 10 and Darby Nixon one.

Nixon and Tague shared team-bests in total digs with nine each while Ashman had eight, Volz and Simmons six apiece and Gerken one.

The Hawks serves 66-of-73 (90 percent) as a unit. They recorded 12 aces to aid the winning cause.

Ashman was 17-of-17 with two aces, Volz 14-14-1 and Tague 13-13-3. Deputy had five aces while serving 9-of-11, with Simmons 7-10-1, Nixon 5-of-7 and Gerken 1-of-1 behidn the line.

W-G visits Pleasantville Thursday before hosting Panorama Tuesday in their next two contests.
