WOODWARD — Sophomore Cody Fisher is making a return trip to the Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament, with senior Ryan Munoz to compete at the Wells Fargo Arena for the first time.

The Woodward-Granger duo will be looking to achieve, at least, a spot on the podium Saturday evening. Doing so requires a wrestler to win twice before suffering a second loss.

Fisher (51-2) achieved the almost unheard-of last season by reaching the finals at 195 pounds as a freshman and was one of only two underclassmen at that weight in the tourney.

Ranked third, he will open against ninth-rated sophomore Shyler Langley (45-2) of Heelan Catholic. Mount Vernon senior Camron Woodley (30-12) will face Gilbert senior Reldon Miller in the paired bracket.

Munoz (37-20) will square off against seventh-ranked Zeb Gnida (49-9), a Solon sophomore. Sixth-ranked Jack Gaukel (41-7) a Sergeant Bluff-Luton freshman, meets West Liberty sophomore Talen Dengler (33-20) on the other side of their bracket.

The Class 2A State Tourney begins with Session One (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.) tomorrow.

W-G’s Ryan Munoz has Logan-Magnolia’s Sidney Pitt in trouble in their 120-pound tilt at the Perry Invite. Munoz will be competing at the state tournament for the first time in his career.
