WOODWARD — A four-run second inning caused all the damage Madrid needed to inflict Tuesday as the Tigers posted a 6-2 win over Woodward-Granger in WCAC softball. The loss for the hosts comes one day after a 12-2 setback at Ogden in league play.

W-G, who fell to 6-25 overall and 2-15 in conference action, held a 1-0 lead over Madrid (11-11, 9-8) after each team had batted once. The Tigers scored four times in the second and once more in the third to post a 5-1 margin, then offset a Hawk run in the third with a fifth-inning tally to account for the eventual final.

Katelyn Scharlau had two hits and drove in a run for W-G, with Audrey Simmons adding a pair of singles. Emma Anderson, Allie Moore and Rian Jamison also had hits, with Moore and Chloe Houge each scoring for the hosts.

Jamison was touched for six runs (only two of which were earned) on 13 hits and a walk in seven innings. She finished with one strikeout.

Erica Burns yielded two unearned runs to collect the win for Madrid. She allowed seven hits and struck out six.

Gabby Brunner led the Tigers with two doubles and three RBIs while Macy Gibbons had three base hits.

Ogden ace Denali Loecker handcuffed visiting W-G Monday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk. She hit one batter and fanned nine.

Loecker ripped two doubles and a home run to go with a single, scoring four times and driving in three runs.

Ogden (18-6, 13-4) finished with nine doubles in the 12-2 win, with Jenna Palmer hitting three, Gabby Ross and Helena Nelson and Amber Braniff one each.

Jamison tossed all 5-2/3 frames for W-G, allowing 12 runs on 17 hits and a walk while striking out one.

Trailing, 5-0, W-G moved the scoreboard in the fourth when Natalie Weaver, Katelyn Scharlau and Audrey Simmons all singled to load the bases, with an Ava Peterson hit plating Weaver.

Anderson — who had been plunked with a pitch earlier in the game — accounted for the other W-G run when she walked and eventually scored on an error in the fifth.

W-G visits Des Moines Christian Thursday for a WCAC varsity doubleheader before stepping out of the conference to entertain Southeast Valley Friday.
