Hawks finish season sweep of Panthers

PANORA — Visiting Woodward-Granger slowly pulled away over the final four minutes of play to claim a 54-43 WCAC victory over Panorama Tuesday. The win gives W-G (10-8, 8-8) a season sweep over Panorama (5-14, 3-13), as the Hawks had recorded a 71-66 win Dec. 19.

The Panthers held a 10-9 lead after one period, but fell into a small 20-17 hole at the half. W-G started the fourth quarter with a 34-29 lead, a margin that grew to 40-31 two minutes into the period. Panorama closed to within 44-40 after a further two minutes of action, but W-G scored 10 of the last 13 points to pull away for the victory.

W-G finished 15-of-25 at the foul line, with Panorama sinking 10-of-15.

Keith Braunschweig scored 14 points and Bryce Achenbach 12 to lead W-G, with Reese Jamison tallying 10 points. J.P. Nixon and Kaya Bowlsby had eight points apiece for the Hawks, with Noah Hoyt scoring two points.

Panorama received 11 points apiece from both Luke South and Zac Rizzuti, with Gracen Welberg tallying seven points. Kolby Shackelford contributed five points, Michael Allen four, Jacob Merschman three and Blaine Barber two.

W-G hosts Earlham Friday before visiting AC/GC Tuesday, with Panorama hosting Ogden Friday and playing the Woodward Academy in the W-G Middle School gym Tuesday.
