Hawks fly by visiting Panthers in WCAC tussle

WOODWARD, IOWA — Woodward-Granger swept visiting Panorama in conference volleyball Tuesday, winning behind scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-14.

The Hawks raised their record to 8-17 overall and 7-1 in WCAC play while the Panthers dropped to 6-15 and 4-5.

W-G was hot from behind the serving line, finishing 69-of-73 (95 percent) with 15 aces.

Brayten Ashman was 16-of-16 with six aces, with Jada Tague 14-14-2 and Darby Nixon 10-11-3. Audrey Simmons was 12-13-2, Samantha Volz 8-8-1, Ashley Gerken 4-5-1 and Grace Deputy 5-of-6.

Both Deputy and Tague had eight kills each, with Gerken adding five, Ashman and Volz four apiece and Lindsay Mescher two. Simmons and Volz had 10 assists apiece, with Nixon and Gerken each having three assists, Ashman two and Deputy and Mescher one each.

Nixon posted a team-high 21 digs, with Tague tallying 10 and Ashman and Simmons nine each. Volz recorded seven digs, with Gerken and Mescher each making two digs and Deputy one.

W-G hosts Van Meter Thursday and the annual Norm McCune Invitational Saturday to conclude their regular season.
