Hawks ground Chargers in five game tussle

WOODWARD, IA — Woodward-Granger won games two and three before prevailing in the fifth game tiebreaker to stop visiting AC/GC in WCC volleyball Tuesday.

The Chargers (9-5, 2-3) were 25-13 winners in game one, but the Hawks (6-13, 4-2) won, 26-24 and 25-15, to take a 2-1 lead. A 25-13 AC/GC win in the fourth game forced a tiebreaker, which W-G won, 15-11, to seize the match victory.

Anna Weaver provided 31 assists and Lindsay Mescher and Bella McDivitt one each for the hosts. Nine kills apiece from Grace Deputy and Mescher led the team, with Audrey Simmons adding eight, Cadence Klocke six, Emma Klocke four and Weaver one.

Deputy had two blocks at the net and Cadence Klocke one, with 19 digs apiece from McDivitt and Simmons the team high. Mescher tallied 16 digs, Weaver 14 and Cela Hill 12, with Emma Klocke having six, McKenna Carroll three, Deputy two and Cadence Klocke and Jocelyn Bowlsby one apiece.

The Hawks were a combined 84-of-91 (92 percent) in serving accuracy, with 17 total aces.

Deputy was 18-19-4 behind the line and Mescher 17-17-4, Carroll 17-20-4 and Weaver 16-16-3. Emma Klocke was 5-6-1, Cela Hill 4-5-1, and McDivitt 7-of-7.
