Hawks take down host Chargers in WCAC baseball

GUTHRIE CENTER — Class 2A No. 5 Woodward-Granger overcame a slow start to record an 8-3 win over AC/GC in WCAC baseball Tuesday.

The teams were tied, 1-all, after four innings of play, with W-G (14-4-1, 9-2-1) scoring four times in the top of the fifth. AC/GC (4-13, 3-8) plated two runs in the bottom of the frame, but the guests countered with another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to pull away for the victory.

Brandon Worley started the pitched three innings for W-G, allowing a run on four hits while striking out three. Brody Nardini went 2-2/3 frames, yielding two runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts while Jay Dorenkamp fanned two in 1-1/3 innings of work. Nardini earned the win and Dorenkamp a save.

Reese Jamison had two doubles and two runs, with Trevor Simmons providing a double and two singles while Tate Lettow had two hits. Jamison and Simmons each scored twice, with Simmons and Lettow both driving in two runs.

Cody Easter hit a triple and Colby Tague a double, with Jack Grell adding a single. Tague, Worth Henry and Christian Husmann each walked twice as the Hawks received a total of nine bases-on-balls.

Husmann stole three bases and Henry two, with Bryce Achenbach stealing a bag.

Bryce Little had two singles, a double, a run and a RBI for the home team, with Reid Rumelhart adding two hits and Newell Rogers one.

W-G is at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tonight and will host Panorama Thursday and Chariton Friday.
