Honors pour in for Panorama girls basketball

PANORA — The Panorama girls basketball team finished 25-2 overall and reached the Class 2A state semifinals this season while also finishing 15-0 in WCAC action.

The school record for wins and overall excellence earned third-year head coach Kylee Boettcher WCAC Coach of the Year honors. The Panthers are 64-11, 42-3 in her short tenure.

Senior Payton Beckman was named the Iowa Print Sportswriters Association Class 2A All-State Second Team. She departs as the all-time school record holder in several categories, including points (1,682).

Beckman was third in 2A with 531 points this year, and average of 19.7 per game. She led 2A with 124 steals (4.6 spg) and had 93 rebounds and 76 assists. She was second with 111 free throws and second in free throw accuracy (82.2 percent). In addition, she was second with 70 3-pointers and led 2A in 3-point accuracy (39.8 percent) among those with at least 100 attempts.

Joining Beckman on the All-Southwest District team was fellow senior Laci Rishel. She had 273 points (10.1 ppg) and 70 rebounds. Her 108 steals were third-best in 2A and her 124 assists fourth-best.

Beckman will play March 26 in the IBCA All-Star game at DC-G, and will also play in the IGCA Select All-Star tourney at Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids. She will be coached in the latter by Denver’s Joe Frost. who led his team to the 2A semifinals as well.

All-WCAC First Team honors were bestowed on Beckman and Rishel. The former had 303 points, 45 rebounds, 47 assists and 73 steals while the latter had 161 points (10.7 ppg), 38 caroms, 70 assists and 69 steals.

Sophomore Jaidyn Sellers was chosen for the Second Team All-WCAC. She provided 136 points while pulling down 86 rebounds and recording 53 thefts.

Senior Angel Polbderg scored 119 points with 36 rebounds and 24 steals while sophomore Tyme Boettcher had 82 points and 44 rebounds with 20 steals. Both were named to the Honorable Mention list.

Beckman, Rishel, Poldberg and Gabby Wellberg were the four seniors on the squad. During their prep careers the Panthers reached the state semis and the regional finals all four seasons. The team was 86-15 overall and 56-4 in conference play.
