GUTHRIE CENTER — Thursday’s Iowa West Swim Conference meet between Perry and Guthrie Center had a surprise twist, as the hosts upended PSST, 319-301.

The home team has a roster of nearly 80 swimmers, with Perry fielding a squad (when all are present) of 42. Not all GC swimmers competed, but the hosts did have at least 20 additional swimmers in the water, helping to slowly accumulate points as the meet progressed.

Jaylene Karolus and Sophia McDevitt (both 13-14) and Quin Mahler-Moreno and Zoe Hibbert (both 11-12) all had a perfect five victories for Perry. Lilly Riley and Maddie McDevitt (both 11-12) had two wins apiece, as did 13-14 racers Emily Dowd and Addison Huntington.

Others scoring wins for the Perry girls were Dannah Karolus and Anna Ridnour (both 15-18) and Aleah Karolus (9-10).

The Perry boys were led by quadruple winners Isaac Winey (9-10), Joel Storey (11-12) and Ethan Winey (15-18), with Andrew Dowd (15-18) winning three times.

Double-wins went to Drew Storey (15-18), Sam Noble (11-12), Townes Wilson and Bryan Anderson (both 9-10) and Dysen Deardorff (8U). Diego Diaz-Cardenas and Kane Mahler-Moreno (both 11-12) and Riese Archer and Jacob Storey (both 15-18) also had wins for the PSST boys.

Perry returns to competition Tuesday with a trip to Coon Rapids, with Carroll visiting the MCB Pool Thursday.
