Three Perry players converge on the ball in the first half at Dewey Field in a contest last season.

WINTERSET — Two quick goals gave Winterset an early lead the hosts never relinquished en route to a 4-1 win over Perry in Raccoon River Conference girls soccer action Tuesday.

Perry halved their deficit to 2-1 when Natalie Martinez received a pass from Janet Ortiz and buried the ball in the net.

However, Winterset was unfazed and promptly scored twice again to set the final margin.

The Jayette junior varsity was also in action and trailed, 3-0, when the game was called due to concerns over lightning in the area.

Perry returns to action Thursday with a visit to Carlisle for a varsity-only match. The Jayettes will host Des Moines Hoover for a freshman/JV/varsity triple-dip at Dewey Field Friday, with the first match to begin at 4:45 p.m.
