VAN METER — Panorama point guard Bailey Beckman had 13 points Friday as the Class 2A No. 3 Panthers posted a 44-26 win over Van Meter in WCAC girls cage action.

The junior surpassed the 1,000 career point threshold in the process, finishing the game with 1,010 points in her three prep seasons. Accuracy is always a key to reaching the four-digit plateau, and Beckman has sparkled from the free throw line (274-of-349, or 79 percent) and on 3-point attempts (92-of-301, or 31 percent), which account for 550 of her points.

Senior Devyn Kemble led Panorama with 19 points in the win and will shortly join Beckman in the Thousand-Point club, as she ended Friday’s contest with 974 points.

Panorama (18-1, 14-0) has been held under 50 points only twice this season, both times by Van Meter (9-8, 7-6). The Panthers were 44-24 victors in Panora earlier this season before collecting Friday’s low-scoring win.

The Panthers were out to a 15-5 lead after one period and held a 24-13 lead at the half. The margin stood at 35-21 entering the fourth quarter, and the guests cruised from there.

Hope Wilderman had seven points, Morgan Johnk four and Faith Powell one to conclude the Panther scoring. Johnk had seven rebounds and two blocks, with Kellie Prince making four assists and Wilderman and Johnk three apiece.

Panorama hosts Woodward-Granger Tuesday and Ogden Friday.
