Hy-Vee Inc. has added 12 more varieties of its bagged salad mixes to the list of salads that might be contaminated by a dangerous feces-borne parasite, cyclospora.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public health warning to consumers last week to avoid certain store-brand “garden salad” products. The FDA updated the warning Friday, with Hy-Vee adding additional varieties of salads to the do-not-eat list.

All of the tainted salads are believed to come from the Fresh Express production facility in Streamwood, Illinois, according to the FDA. The list of proscribed Hy-Vee products now includes:

  • Southwest Chopped Salad Kit 13.4 oz.
  • Shredded Iceberg 8 oz.
  • Veggie Deluxe Salad 12 oz.
  • Greener Supreme Blend 12 oz.
  • American Blend Salad 12 oz.
  • Italian Blend Salad 10 oz.
  • Coleslaw Mix 16 oz.
  • Romaine Garden Salad 12 oz.
  • Asian Chopped Salad Kit 13.7 oz.
  • Sunflower Chopped Salad Kit 13.2 oz.
  • Chipotle Cheddar Chopped Salad Kit 11.4 oz.
  • Garden Salad 12 oz.
  • Avocado Ranch Chopped Salad Kit 12.8 oz.

The salads are believed to be linked to infections caused by Cyclospora in certain bagged salad blends containing iceberg lettuce, red cabbage and carrots.

These products are identifiable with a product code beginning with a “Z.” Additionally, consumers should not eat, and restaurants and retailers should not sell or serve recalled Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Brand Garden Salad, recalled Walmart’s Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad, or recalled ALDI Little Salad Bar Brand Garden salad.

The FDA investigation is ongoing. For more information, visit the FDA website.
