How to put the ball in the basket more frequently will be the focus of a four-part shooting camp coming to Perry for boys and girls in grades 5-12.

Put the ball in the basket. Repeat as often as possible. It is as simple — and, at times, as maddeningly frustrating — as that.

Young basketball players in Perry will be given the opportunity to improve their marksmanship this summer when the Central Shooting Academy visits four times over a four-week period.

Led by Central College head coach Craig Douma, the academy will be held June 12, 19 and 26 at Perry High School and July 3 at Perry Elementary School. Boys and girls in grades 5-8 will fire away at 10 a.m. with cagers in grades 9-12 shooting the rock at 11 a.m.

Cost is $75 for all four sessions. Forms are now available at the Perry High School office or by contacting Jayette varsity head coach Skylar Wolf.

Douma, one-time head coach at Carroll High School, has been the Dutch head coach for eight years. He is 369-166 (.69) in over 20 years as a head coach at the prep and college level.

He has led teams to eight league titles in 13 years and guided Central to the 2014 IIAC championship while leading the Dutch to the NCAA D3 tournaments in both 2014 and 2016. A two-time district coach of the year, he was the 2014 IIAC Coach of the Year.

Douma played college hoops at Northwestern College, where he was a two-time NAIA All-American nominee. The Red Raiders reached three national tournaments during his stretch as a player.

Over 1,000 students have benefited over the 20 years Douma has been holding shooting academies.

For more information Douma can be reached at (641) 628-5225 or by email at doumac@central.edu.
