Jane Hilsenbeck, 68, of Perry passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at the EveryStep Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Murdock Funeral Home in Perry, with visitation preceding the service from 5-7 p.m.

Jane Elizabeth Hilsenbeck was born Jan. 4, 1954, in Perry, Iowa, to Robert Wayne and Sarah Jane (Yetter) Gittins.

She graduated from Perry High School in 1972.

Jane was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Hilsenbeck in Perry on Sept. 14, 1973.

Jane loved children, helping others and serving Perry.

She started her working career as an accountant at Burk Ford sales. After that, she found her true calling was serving people. She worked in education at the Perry Preschool and Perry Elementary School for 24 years as a teacher associate and administrative assistant.

Jane spent the last six years of her career as an administrative assistant at Dallas County Hospital, retiring in January 2019.

She was also involved in many activities and organizations over the years.

Jane was well known for her ability to create and decorate. She loved sewing, quilting and flower gardening and took great pride in decorating the inside and outside of her home.  She had a wonderful eye for decorating and was always crafting something. Many benefited from her crafting and creating skills.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and leader of her family. She always kept everything organized and knew exactly what needed done and when.

Jane had a very special relationship with both of her grandsons, and there was never any doubt of her love for them.

In death, she rejoins her parents, Bob and Sarah Gittins; a brother, Randy Gittins; and sister-in-law, Margaret (Maggie) Gittins.

Left to cherish Jane’s memory are her husband, Chuck, of Perry; children, Scott of Perry and Steve (Jenn) of Walford, Iowa; grandchildren, Jareth and Hudson; brothers, Bob Gittins of Perry, Rod (Penny) Gittins of Perry and John (Jeanne) Gittins of Waukee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Jane’s name will be directed to EveryStep Hospice or directed to the family to be used for a K-1 Book Donation in Jane’s memory and may be sent to Murdock Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhome.net.
