Showing dramatic improvement over their first outing of the season, the Perry girls golfers easily defeated both Des Moines Christian and Greene County at the Perry Golf and Country Club Thursday.

Perry finished with a team score of 217, with Greene County’s 245 one stroke better than Des Moines Christian.

“Being on the home course helped,” Jayette head coach Joel Happel said. “We cut 16 shots off Tuesday’s round at Ballard. Alyssa Kruger had a solid 48 and overcame a bad second hole. Brooke (Huntington) and Skylar (Cunningham) played well and Delaney Eiteman’s score counted, and this was only her second varsity meet.”

Kruger was runner-up medalist with a 48, with Huntington shooting a 51, Cunningham a 57 and Eiteman a 61. Rounds of 66 from Sarah Sweet and of 69 from Madyson Hill were not used for the team total.

Rachael Danielson’s medalist round of 43 paced Greene County. Ellie Madsen had a 64, Lindsey Paulsen a 66 and Emily Heupel a 72 to cap the scoring for the Rams.

DMC received cards of 58 from Cece Sturdivant and of 59 from Anna Swaim, with Jesse R (full last name n/a) and Claire Stromley also scoring for the Lions with rounds of 64 and 65, respectively.

Perry will host the 18-hole Jayette Invitational Saturday, which will have an 8:30 a.m. tee time. DC-G, Dowling Catholic, Humboldt, North Polk and Norwalk are all expected to attend.

Happel said he was excited to see how his team would perform over 18-holes.

“Looks like a ‘no excuses’ Saturday with temperatures in the 70’s,” he said.
