Perry's Selena Garcia (13) and Grace Marburger got behind the Ballard defense, but Garcia's shot was stuffed by the Bomber keeper during their May 3 contest.

Two days after being held without a shot on goal by fifth-ranked ADM, the Perry girls soccer team unloaded 31 shots against Carroll Thursday at Dewey Field, with nine of those reaching the nylon in a 9-1 victory.

Carroll (1-11, 0-6) did their best to challenge Perry (7-6, 4-3) in the first half, limiting the Jayettes to a Natalie Martinez goal in the 23rd minute and a Sydney Guerra score in the 27th minute. Each assisted on the others’ score.

Freshman Bryn Steffen made it 3-0 in the 20th minute of the second half with the first goal of her varsity career.

Steffen’s strike opened the floodgates, with Guerra scoring off a Grace Marburger assist in the 25th minute, with Marburger beating the Tiger goalie just over a minute later off a Steffen assist.

Guerra put the ball in the net off Marburger’s second assist of the game in the 35th minute. Martinez scored with just over two minutes remaining, with Guerra and Martinez each scoring in the waning seconds to create the 9-1 final.

The four-goal effort from Guerra lifted her to 10 goals on the season, with Martinez now at 25.

Perry returns to the pitch Monday when they host Des Moines Lincoln.
