ANKENY — Perry competed Saturday in a regional meet at the Trail Point Wellness and Aquatic Center, with the Jayettes producing seven personal-best and two season-best efforts during the competition.

Ankeny won the nine-team meet with 509 points, with West Des Moines Valley second at 448. Several of the teams competed in diving competition Thursday, with those points added to the total earned Saturday. Perry finished ninth overall with 72 points.

All three Jayettes swimming the 50 freestyle had personal best times, with Amanda Holwegner (29.06 seconds), Avery Miner (30.87) and Gracie Phillips (33.5) placing 18-21-22. Abby Herman had a PB of 2 minutes, 45.01 seconds while finishing 18th in the 200 IM, with Anna Ridnour 20th in the event in a season best clocking of 2:45.46.

Dannah Karolus and Holwegner were 18-20, in 1:02.24 and a PB of 1:03.92, respectively, in the 100 free, with Karolus (2:16.61) and Sarah Vaughn (2:16.82, a PB) touching 15-16 in the 200 free.

Vaughn was 12th, in 6:03.34, in the 500 free, her best time of the season. Ridnour was 22nd, in 1:26.65, in the 100 breaststroke, with Miner and Phillips 17-18, in 1:21.05 and 1:27.6 in the 100 backstroke. Miner’s effort was a personal best.

Freshman Jaylene Karolus had competed earlier in the day in the State Cross Country Meet in Fort Dodge. She arrived in time to join the team for the 400 free relay, pairing with Herman, Vaughn and her sister Dannah, a junior, the quartet placing seventh in 4:18.34.

Perry did not compete in the 100 butterfly.

Ridnour was the lone senior on the squad, and finished four solid years in the pool at the meet.
