The Perry High School swim team competed Saturday in the 2023 Ames High School swimming and diving invitational tournament, capturing fifth place among the nine teams in competition.

“It was quite a day for Perry swimming,” said PHS Head Coach Jean Dowd, “with 12 personal best swims in individual event or first relay legs, and all three relays had season best times!’

Tournament host Ames High School won the meet with 613.5 points. Northfield High Gold from Minnesota took second place with 460 points, and third place went to Linn-Mar with 324. Cedar Rapids Kennedy captured fourth place with 318, and Perry took fifth with 205 points. Rounding out the field were West Des Moines Valley in sixth at 187.5, Indianola in seventh at 103, Des Moines Roosevelt capturing eighth with 78 and Northfield High-Maroon in ninth place with 26 points. Diving points for four schools were included in the meet totals.

Medley Relay
Cali Hernandez, Addison Huntington, Jenna Nelson, Emily Dowd, 2:13.83, season best relay time, finishing 12th out of 21 teams, scoring 10 points. Hernandez had a personal best time of 38.64 on her backstroke leg, dropping -3.24 seconds.

200 Freestyle
Lilly Riley, 2:08.30, 5th place out of 22, scoring 14 points, personal best time, dropping -.36.

200 Individual Medley
Addison Huntington, 2:46.45, 16th out of 23, scoring 1 point.
Sophia McDevitt, 2:22.30, 6th out of 23, scoring 13 points.

50 Free
Emily Dowd, 28.36, 11th out of 27, scoring 6 points, personal best time, dropping .24
Jenna Nelson, 27.94,10th out of 27, scoring 7 points, personal best time, dropping -1.42

400 Freestyle Relay
Aleah Karolus, Lilly Riley, Sophia McDevitt, Quin Mahler-Moreno, 3:52-71, 2nd place out of 22 teams, season best relay team. Karolus’ lead off relay time of 1:00.59 was a personal best time for her, dropping -.60.
