WOODWARD — Perry received strong pitching, played well defensively and had timely hitting, leading the Jayettes to victory.

Friday’s games with Lewis Central and Madrid at the W-G Classic had all of the above in common. What was entirely different was the manner in which those wins were delivered.

Perry improved to 11-4 overall after rallying in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 4-3 win over Lewis Central, then returned to the diamond to crush Madrid, 13-1, in five innings.

Emma Olejniczak allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out 13 in winning the opener in the circle.

The Titans scored twice in the top of the fourth, but the Jayettes tied the game in the home half of the frame. Rachel Kinney singled, with Olejniczak singling and moving up on an overthrow, with the ball rolling into the dugout and allowing Kinney to score. Olejniczak trottted home moments later on an Adriana Eastman RBI-single.

Perry grabbed a brief 3-2 lead with a run in the fifth, only to have Lewis Central tie the game in the sixth.

Sid Vancil singled to start Perry’s final at-bat, with an Alyssa Kruger sacrifice moving Vancil to second. She advanced to third on a Kinney base hit, then crossed the dish on Olejniczak’s game-winning single.

Kinney was 4-for-4 with a double, with Jo Diw hitting a double and a triple while Olejniczak had two hits.

The Perry Aluminum Company made an appearance in the second game, resulting in 13 runs on 16 hits, of which 12 were for extra bases, with four rockets clearing the fence.

Diw moved to the top of the Class 4A home run list with two four-baggers. She added a double in finishing 3-for-4 with five RBIs.

Gabby West went deep for her first career home run, with Kinney 3-for-3 with a double and a dinger. Both Vancil and Kruger smacked a pair of doubles, with Olejniczak 2-for-4 with a double while T.J. Sheehy added a double and Maddie West a base hit.

Vancil was the happy recipient of the launch party as the junior picked up the pitching win with five frames off the rubber. She allowed one run on one hit and finished with seven strikeouts.

Perry will battle host Woodward-Granger at 2 p.m. tomorrow before facing Ogden at 4 p.m.
