One hundred minutes of normal play resulted in a scoreless tie Thursday, forcing Perry's match with visiting Carlisle into a shootout, where the Jayettes eventually prevailed.

Perry girls soccer head coach Gilmar Guerra would almost certainly rather have a little less drama, but if the outcome remains what is has been, he will, doubtless, not be too bothered.

Perry was a 1-0 winner Tuesday over Winterset in a tightly-contested match, then played 100 scoreless minutes Thursday against visiting Carlisle before prevailing, 4-2, in a shootout for what will be recorded as a 1-0 victory.

The win moves Perry to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in Raccoon River Conference play. They will return to the pitch Tuesday with a trip to Des Moines North before making their annual trip to the Newton Tournament April 15.

Two 40-minute halves and a pair of 10-minute overtime periods failed to settle the issue Thursday, sending the teams into a shootout, where each team takes five penalty kicks, with the team alternating shots.

A shootout was required Thursday to decide the winner between Perry and visiting Carlisle.

Molly Lutmer, Magley Orella, Syd Guerra and Carly Herrera, in order, scored for the Jayettes. Each team shot wide once, with Carlisle scoring twice but having one shot saved by Perry goalie Selena Garcia to help the hosts prevail. Garcia had five saves in goal before the shootout, her second consecutive shutout.

Perry’s will not return to Dewey Field until April 18 when they begin a string of three consecutive home dates. First up will be Bondurant-Farrar (April 18), with Boone visiting April 20 and Des Moines Christian April 24.
