The Perry volleyball team posted a 3-1 mark last week. The critical component was that all three came Thursday, giving the Jayettes the championship of their own tournament.

Perry is now 9-20 overall with wins over Saydel, Des Moines Hoover and Des Moines North. The Jayettes defeated the same trio to win the invite last season. The Perry record after the tourney was 10-20.

The Jayettes were in HOIAC action Tuesday, dropping a three-set match to Greene County.

Perry rallied to best Saydel, 17-25, 25-15 and 15-11, with a 25-13 and 25-12 win over DM Hoover following. The hosts then defeated DM North, 25-16, 13-25, and 15-6 to defend their title.

Yamilet Ortega had 22 total assists Thursday, with Gaby Orellana having 10 and four others one each. Ashley Cerna’s 15 kills led the team, with Kathryn West adding 13, Miley Sanchez eight, Charity Parnell five, Maci Tunink four and Callie Steva two.

Steva made her presence known in the front row and was credited with five solo and three assisted blocks while Tunink had one solo block and West one assisted block.

Cerna led the defense with 27 digs, with Ortega (15), Parnell (14), Yamilet Gonzalez (13), and Steva (12) also heavily involved. Addison Huntington tallied nine digs, Orellana seven, Tunink and Sanchez three apiece, Madison Stika two and Karagyn Whelchel one.

Perry was a combined 121-of-136 (89 percent) serving and produced 16 total aces.

Parnell 31-35-5, Orellana 29-31-2, and Tunink 12-20-5, with Ortega 15-15-1, Steva 14-15-3, and Cerna 18-of-18.

Tuesday’s match was not as pleasant for Perry (6-19, 2-3), as Greene County (14-7, 2-1) posted the sweep on scores of 25-16, 25-8, and 25-16.

Taylor Atwell had six assists, Ortega five and three others one each, with West having seven kills, Cerna and Parnell two apiece and three others a single kill.

Parnell had nine digs, Cerna seven and Atwell five, with Huntington providing four digs, Ortega three, Gonzalez two  and three others one each. Tunink was credited with three solo blocks above the net.

The team served only 80 percent (31-of-39) with two aces.

Atwell served 8-of-8 with two aces, with Ortega 7-of-7, Steva 6-of-7, and Parnell 5-of-6. Cerna was 3-of-5 behind the line, with both Huntington and Tunink 1-of-3.

Perry is at South Hamilton Tuesday and at Nevada Thursday to conclude their regular season.
