Rachel Kinney's torrid hitting continued July 6 with this base hit against Greene County.

The Perry softball team has played eight games on their own diamond this season, with Wednesday’s 5-0 blanking of Bondurant-Farrar in Raccoon River Conference play the fourth time the Jayettes have denied their guests even so much as a single run.

“We made adjustments to their pitcher’s speed to get us ahead and had solid, aggressive defense to keep us ahead,” Perry head coach Tina Kenney said. “Emma (Olejniczak) kept them off-balance and the defense stepped up to make plays when needed.”

Olejniczak allowed three hits and two walks while striking out 14 Lady Jays (5-9. 0-5) to earn the win in the circle. She has 100 strikeouts in 75 innings this season and has issued just 28 walks.

Perry (7-5, 2-4) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Maddy Jans singled and trotted home on Jo Diw’s two-run home run, her second four-bagger of the season.

Alyssa Kruger was on base with a walk and Rachel Kinney on an error in the fourth when Victoria Hegstrom perfectly executed a push-bunt through the right side of the infield to score Kruger and send Kinney to third. Sid Vancil’s sacrifice fly moments later pushed the Jayette lead to 4-0.

Brooke Huntington singled, moved up on a Maddie West sac bunt and scored on an Olejniczak base hit in the fifth to cap the scoring.

Perry visits Ballard tonight before playing twice Friday and twice again Saturday in the Woodward-Granger Classic. A 10 a.m. game with Ogden will start Friday’s action for Perry, with the team to play Madrid at 4 p.m. Both games are on diamond two. Saturday’s slate has Perry facing Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln at 12 p.m. on diamond two before a battle with W-G at 2 p.m. on diamond one.
