Jayettes spike Rams for third consecutive win

JEFFERSON — Perry followed consecutive victories that ended their tourney play in Knoxville Saturday with a 3-1 win over host Greene County Monday, giving the Jayettes wins in three straight matches and in four of their last six.

Perry opened their final regular season match with a 25-19 win in the first set against their old rivals. A 25-20 Jayette win in the second set followed, but the Rams refused to yield and responded with a 25-10 lopsided win in the third set to continue the match. Perry made sure no fifth set would be needed by posting a 25-21 win in the fourth set to secure the victory.

The Jayettes finish their regular season 8-25 overall while the Rams fell to 10-23. Perry will open postseason play at Bondurant-Farrar Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a Class 4A Region 4 First Round match.

Grace Marburger had 16 kills and a block for Perry, with Jo Diw adding 12 kills while Isabel Saemisch had a season-high eight kills and a block. Adrian Thompson had four kills and a block while Maddie West also had a kill and a block.

Sid Vancil had 36 assists, West two, and Adriana Eastman one, with Syd Guerra having 17 digs and Diw 14. Vancil tallied nine digs, Marburger and West four apiece and Thompson two.

West had an ace on 16-of-16 serving, with Thompson 13-15-2. Marburger was 11-13-3 behind the line, with Diw 9-11-3, Vancil 11-of-12 and Guerra 10-of-10.
