Grinnell and regular foe Algona were Perry’s guest at the McCreary Community Building pool Tuesday for the final home meet of the season for the Jayettes.
For the first time Perry held their Senior Night and Think Pink Meet, for breast cancer awareness, on the same evening. Anna Ridnour, the lone senior on the squad, was honored during the break following the 50 freestyle.
Grinnell defeated Perry, 85-69, and Algona, 83-72, with Perry prevailing against Algona, 85-60.
The meet began with Ridnour, Sarah Vaughn, Jaylene Karolus and Abby Herman finishing the 200 medley relay in 2 minutes, 17.59 seconds. The time earned a placing of 2/1 (second to Grinnell, first against Algona).
Dannah Karolus was first overall in the 200 free in 2:18.42, with Vaughn 3/2 in 2:22.5 in the second of the 11 events, with Herman finishing 2/1, in a personal-best 2:47.42 in the 200 IM.
Amanda Holwegner was second to Algona, and Ridnour third to Algona, in clockings of 30.06 and 30.12 seconds, respectively in the 50 free.
Jaylene Karolus was first overall in the 100 butterfly, winning by the large margin of over six seconds with a time of 1:11.59. The effort was a personal best.
The 100 free was won by Dannah Karolus in 1:02.23, with Holwegner’s personal best clocking of 1:07.68 placing the sophomore 3/2.
Vaughn was 2/1 in the 500 free in 6:20.93, with Herman, Holwegner, Dannah Karolus and Avery Miner winning the 200 free relay in 2:00.77.
The overall win in the 100 backstroke was claimed, in 1:14.37, by Jaylene Karolus, while Ridnour was 2/1 and Miner second to Algona in the 100 breaststroke in 1:29.07 and 1:36.65.
The final event, the 400 free relay, was also won by Perry. Herman, Vaughn and the Karolus sisters were the victors in 4:27.13.
Perry will return to action October 9 with a visit to Atlantic.
