December 4, 2019

  • Janice Harbaugh requested a welfare check on a person in the 1200 Block of Rushridge Road. The officer made contact with the person, who was fine.
  • An officer spoke to the registered owner of a vehicle with two flat tires that was parked on the street in the 500 block of S. Olive Street. The officer advised the owner to remove the vehicle or face having it towed to impound.
  • An officer with the Omaha Police Department reported a sexual assault report that he received in his community had actually occurred in Jefferson several years ago. Charges were filed by the Jefferson Police Department in the matter several years ago. No action was required from an officer.
  • Charla Grote reported her purse was stolen/missing while at the Jefferson Public Library at 200 W. Lincoln Way. Grote provided an officer with the description of a female who sat near her. The officer located the female and retrieved the purse. The female claimed she grabbed the purse by mistake when she left the library. The officer returned the purse to Grote, who went through the purse and reported she was missing bank cards. The investigation continues.
  • An officer was advised of a 911 hang-up call from 301 American Ave. All was fine at the location, and the call was placed in error.
  • A caller reported a male, wearing no shoes and in short sleeves, acting strangely in the 400 block of S. Locust Street. An officer located the male in the 200 block of N. Olive Street and spoke with him. The male said he was taking a walk and was going home. He was allowed to go on his way.
  • Conner Groves reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the alley in the 400 block of E. Lincoln Way. An officer spoke to the vehicle’s owner, who removed it from the area.
  • Scott Cram requested an officer at 305 N. Wilson Ave. #5, to remove an unwanted female from the residence. The officer was aware the female lives at the address and advised Cram he would need to secure an eviction notice on the female because the officer could not make her leave.
  • A caller reported the smell of marijuana in the heating vents at the apartment building located at 306 W. Lincoln Way. The officers checked the area but could not locate the source of the smell.

December 5, 2019

  • A deputy requested an officer to check on a possible fire at 1502 235th St. The officer discovered plastic had melted on the stove top, creating the stench and smoke. No damage was reported.
  • Merissa Massey reported a suspicious female in the 900 block of N. Vine Street. An officer made contact with the female as she was retrieving an item out of a local dumpster. The female needed no assistance from the officer.
  • A traffic stop in the 500 block of N. Vine Street resulted in Marcia Lowe of Yale being issued a citation for failure to have a valid driver’s license. During the stop, the officer detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer informed the female driver that he was going to conduct a probable-cause search of the vehicle based on the odor. The female driver voluntarily handed over suspected marijuana, prescription medications and drug paraphernalia to the officer. The items were seized for testing with charges pending lab results.
  • Melvin Palmer informed an officer he received the Publisher’s Clearing House scam phone call. Palmer was supposed to send $500 to claim his prize. He said he knew it was a scam, provided no information to the caller and did not incur a loss.
  • A caller reported people at a residence in the 500 block of N. Grimmell Road in violation of an Iowa Department of Human Services court order. An officer found no one at the home.
  • A traffic stop at Elm and Stanford streets resulted in Kevin Johnson of Stratford being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • An officer checked the residence of 206 N. Elm Street after a 911 hang-up call and learned a child was playing with the phone and all was fine.
  • A traffic stop at 220th and Mulberry streets resulted in Megan Bluml of Glidden being issued a citation for excessive speed.
  • Officers responded to a reported odor of marijuana in the apartment building located in the 300 block of E. Lincoln Way. While checking apartments for the odor, the officers made contact with a wanted subject. Kevin Spurlock, 21, of Des Moines was arrested on a Boone County warrant for failure to appear.
  • Scott Cram requested officers at 305 N. Wilson St., #5, for a domestic dispute. The officers met with the highly intoxicated couple and worked to defuse the issue for the evening. The couple went to separate rooms for the rest of the evening.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 300 block of N. Wilson Avenue.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
