January 19, 2018

  • An officer checked on a business alarm activation at 303 N. Elm St. All was fine at the business.
  • Ieisha Jabbar reported a male took her car without permission. The male told her he dropped off the vehicle in Jefferson. The officer located the vehicle parked in the 200 block of S. Walnut Street. The officer advised the owner of the location of her vehicle, and an arrest warrant was requested for Zachary Allen Waters, 21, of Paton for operation without owner’s consent.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 60 block of W. Monroe Street.
  • Keith Wright advised of an elderly female at 1207 N. Elm St. who locked her keys in her vehicle. An officer contacted Durbin Towing to assist the female since it was not an emergency situation for which the officer could unlock the vehicle.
  • The Greene County Middle School requested an officer to conduct a welfare check on a juvenile female at 600 W. Lincoln Way. The juvenile had not been in school since Jan. 4. The officer went to the residence and made contact with the parents of the child. They were not cooperative with the officer and would not allow him inside to speak to the child. The Iowa Department of Human Services was made aware of the event.
  • An anonymous female reported drug usage at a residence in Jefferson where children are living. An officer is investigating.
  • A caller reported open doors at 700 W. Russell St. An officer made contact with employees to secure the building.
  • A caller reported debris in the roadway in the 400 block of N. Elm Street. An officer removed the object.
  • Melissa Rice reported harassment on Facebook by her neighbor. An officer told both parties to end contact with the other.

January 20, 2018

  • An officer checked on an alarm activation at the Rec Center. He located an employee on scene, opening the facility up for the day.
  • A caller reported a female wearing light clothing and walking near Maple and McKinley streets who seemed confused. An officer located the female, who was fine and said she was walking to the Jefferson Public Library.
  • Tim Hegstrom reported he received the IRS phone scam. He did not give the caller any information and did not incur a loss.
  • Charles Heimer reported his van’s transmission line was vandalized at 907 N. Cedar St. The officer found no evidence to suggest it was not normal wear and tear on the vehicle.
  • An officer assisted a motorist with car trouble by pushing the vehicle from the intersection of Chestnut and Madison streets.
  • A traffic stop in the 400 block of S. Cedar Street resulted in the arrest of Jody Lyn Schad, 42, of Jefferson on charges of driving while barred and dark windows.
  • Eric Chrystal provided an officer with suspected drug paraphernalia located while working in his rental property at 905 W. Lincoln Way. The officer destroyed the item.
  • Curtis Burkhardt spoke with an officer concerning a civil Issue with a cat at 202 W. Adams St.
  • Veronica Ellsbury requested an officer speak with her 6-year-old daughter, who was taking things that do not belong to her. The officer spent some time speaking with the youth about possible consequences of this type of action.
  • Kelsey Reed requested an officer at 1000 W. Adams St., #25, for a harassment issue with neighbors. The officer found it was not harassment and advised all parties to ignore one another.
  • The Greene County Hospital requested an officer at 1000 W. Lincoln Way for an unruly husband of a patient. The situation was taken care of before the officer’s arrival.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 500 block of S. Olive Street.

January 21, 2018

  • Jennifer Hupp reported a deceased deer in the 400 block of Greenewood Road. An officer called the Deer Salvage List and located someone who wanted the animal. The officer issued a salvage tag for the animal to be removed from the area.
  • An officer assisted the Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 600 block of S. Cedar Street.
  • An officer investigated a hit-ad-run accident at 106 W. Washington St. A 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, owned by Nathaniel Truss of Scranton, was struck while parked at the business. The officer estimated damage to the vehicle at $500. The officer is working with the business to gather video of the event and develop a suspect vehicle involved.
  • Darla Nelson came to the Law Enforcement Center with a complaint of harassment by an ex-boyfriend on Facebook. The officer advised both parties to end contact with each other.
  • An officer was requested at 777 Wild Rose Lane for a hit-and-run accident. A vehicle backed into a 2009 Chevy Silverado, owned by Francis Halbach of Fort Dodge, and left the area. Halbach’s vehicle was not damaged in the incident. The officer is investigating.
  • Peter Bartelt reported suspicious activity occurring outside of 702 N. Cedar St. An officer made contact with someone outside the residence who was working on a vehicle by flashlight.
  • An officer responded to a panic alarm at 303 N. Elm St. An employee had accidentally tripped the alarm.

January 22, 2018

  • Staff at a local hotel reported an abandoned vehicle in their parking lot.
  • As a result of a traffic stop in the 900 block of E. Lincoln Way, Kimberly Johns of Jefferson was issued a citation for driving while license suspended.
  • Joseph Patterson reported a stolen cell phone from the Greene County Community Center  at 204 W. Harrison St.
  • Staff at the Medicap Pharmacy at 400 N. Elm St. reported a stolen registration plate off a company vehicle. An officer is investigating.
  • Officers responded to 108 E. Central St., # 66, for a verbal argument taking place between a male and a female.
  • Officers responded to the 500 block of N. Elm Street for a possible medical assistance call.
  • Officers responded to the 500 block of N. Elm Street for a two-vehicle accident. Brandon Turner of Garner, Iowa, was traveling southbound in the 500 block of N. Elm Street in the inside lane while operating a 2015 Chevy Tahoe. Kent Peninger of Grand Junction was driving parallel with Brandon in the outside lane in his 2008 Ford Focus. Turner attempted to switch lanes and struck the Ford Focus, causing $1,000 in damages to the right front of the Tahoe and $1,000 in damages to the back left door of the Focus. Turner was issued a citation for turning at a intersection violation.
  • As a result of an investigation that began Jan. 18, 2018, arrests warrants have been requested for Trinity Glen Welch, 28, of Jefferson for violation of a no-contact order and domestic abuse assault-display or use of a deadly weapon. The arrest warrants stemmed from a report of Welch threatening Kaleigh Harrah of Jefferson with a knife at their residence at 404 N. Chestnut St. during an argument.
  • As a result of an investigation and a search warrant served Dec. 3, 2017, at 902 N. Pinet St., arrests warrants have been requested for Hiram Silvano Black, 29, of Jefferson and a juvenile male for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance-marijuana.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
