Jerry ‘Buddy’ Payton of Omaha

Jerry “Buddy” Payton, 68, of Omaha, Neb., and formerly of Perry and Lake Panorama passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at his home in Omaha.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Perry. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 11 from 2-5 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill cemetery in Perry at a later date.

Memorials will be given to People for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), P.O. Box 135, Jefferson, IA 50129, and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.

Jerry “Buddy” Ray Payton was born March 25, 1948, in Perry, Iowa, to Kenneth Marvin and Lois Eileen (Carpenter) Payton.

He graduated from Perry High School in 1966 and then attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.

He was united in marriage to Deborah Gilbertson Dec. 24, 2001.

Buddy spent his career in the retail industry, serving as a senior executive at K-Mart, Michael’s, Wal-Mart, Creativity Inc. and Widget Products. For the past eight years, Buddy was an entrepreneur as the president of Jerry Payton and Associates.

Throughout his life time he lived in many different places, including Omaha, Lincoln, Perry, Lake Panorama, Los Angeles, Bentonville, St. Louis, Chicago, Des Moines, Texas City, Atlanta, Toronto and Dallas.

Buddy enjoyed playing golf, boating and feeding the birds. He loved getting together with friends and playing cards. He also liked motorcycles, cars and sporting events of all kinds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lois Payton; and his grandparents, Daniel and Edith Carpenter and Raymond and Mildred Payton.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Payton of Omaha; children, Todd (Kari) Mosser of Lincoln, Matt (Jennifer) Mosser of Omaha and Mitch (Samantha) Mosser of Omaha; grandchildren, Lauren and Charlie Mosser and Brinley Kingston, all of Lincoln, Max and Dane Mosser, Neal Major and Maddux Mosser, all of Omaha; siblings, Steve Payton of Boone and Cheryl (Louis) Swanson of Jefferson; nephews and nieces, Scott (Jane) Swanson of Omaha, Nicole (Nick) Arringdale of Boone, Amy (Dennis) O’Brien of Cornelius, Ore., and Stephanie (Scott) Moore of Mission Hills, Kan.; great-nephews and great-nieces, Mallory and Cody Swanson and Britney and Jacob Costello, all of Omaha, Ajay, Beau and Taylor Arringdale, all of Boone, Sean and Rory O’Brien of Cornelius, Ore., and Caroline and Annabelle Moore of Mission Hills, Kan.; and numerous cousins.
